A mama’s approach to breastfeeding in public is such a personal choice. Some just don’t do it at all and some feel comfortable feeding baby without taking cover. For me, using a cover up made all the difference in my comfort level. We stock and sell Bebe au Lait nursing cover ups at EuphoriaMaternity.com, which is the style I personally used. They offer enough coverage without heating you up like you’re under a blanket.
This month we’re giving away this nursing cover up to one lucky reader. It’s a product sample of the “Simple & Sweet Nursing Curtain“, which offers even more peak-proof security than the Bebe au Lait design. We offered these nursing cover ups at Euphoria for awhile, but customers seemed to prefer Bebe au Lait. Rather than see this perfectly usable and cute (love that fabric!) nursing cover languishing on our shelves, I’d like to give it away to a mommy who can use it. It’s a lightweight cover-up with lots of side coverage and a pocket for your nursing pads. Retails for $45.00.

When breastfeeding my first child, I generally found it easier to go sit down in a quiet place to nurse in private. I enjoyed privacy while learning to breastfeed… but I would have been offended and very unhappy if anyone had suggested that I *needed* to hide away in a corner to feed my baby.
Now that I’m breastfeeding my second baby, I hardly have the option to find a quiet place! I’d have to find some way to entertain my 3 year old while sitting for long stretches in dressing rooms, and that’s unlikely to go well. Also, my second baby has been nursing almost constantly as a newborn; I wouldn’t be able to get much done if I couldn’t nurse him on the go. I’ve been nursing him in a pouch or a wrap carrier, and that’s been working very well for us. I generally wear a tank I can pull down under a t-shirt I can pull up, so I stay pretty well covered.
However… now that the summer is really starting to warm up, I’m finding it harder to pull together clothes that allow for comfort *and* discreet, on-the-go nursing. Though I’m a HUGE fan/advocate of nursing in public, I also would not be comfortable having my entire chest exposed while wheeling around in Target
I think a cover-up like this would work well in that sort of scenario.
My first baby nursed all the time and it was wonderful. I thought I would be very private with it, but if he needed to be fed, I made it work. I had one nursing cover which was okay and used blankets sometimes. I am having another one in Sept. and know there will be more situations where we are out in public and this nursing cover would be great for that. I never want to make people feel uncomfortable, but put the need of my child first.
I feel like I did my best to not make any one feel uncomfortable. I love wonderful nursing covers that allow us to feed our sweet babies anywhere.

As I’m expecting my first child to arrive in just 7 weeks, I don’t yet have an approach to nursing. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading the previous posts and appreciate the insight. I’m a private person by nature, so I think a “nursing curtain” will be a must for me!
I’ve always nursed without exposing much of anything. Baby’s mouth covers the goodies, the t-shirt covers any skin above the baby’s mouth and the baby’s body covers anything skin below. That said, I’ve witnessed a middle aged, purple haired, sears employee lanyard wearing, open mouth chewing woman yell at my friend that the food court at the mall was no place to breastfeed and that my friend should go to the bathroom. As I recall, I told her that watching her chew chicken open mouthed whist yelling was offensive to me, and that perhaps she should take her meal in the bathroom. Eating is eating. I’d think that most women do their best to be discrete for their own comfort and the comfort of those around them. Certainly a nursing cover would help.
I nursed my first child whenever and wherever she needed it, but I was a little shy while doing it. It’s old hat now with the second one, and I just don’t care what people think. I care about meeting my baby’s needs. Sometimes though, a cover up would be nice for the time when I wear a dress that I would need to pull of the shoulder to be able to nurse. I do try to keep myself covered up, but I’m not going to bend over backwards trying to be as discreet as possible. Our culture needs to be reminded that this is what breasts are for, and it is in no way something that needs to be done in the bathroom, or hidden off in a closet. I’ll step off my soapbox now

I’m not really comfortable with myself or very confident, so when I breastfeed in public I try to got somewhere private to get situated. Then I will come back out when I’m positive I wont accidentally flash someone lol.

I would love to win the nursing cover! My first baby is due May 31st and I plan on breastfeeding exclusively. My approach to breastfeeding in public would be to use a cute nursing cover…but I am all for breastfeeding in public w/out one! Blessings!
I am a new first time mommy and have breast fed a few times in public. I usually use a blanket but have some problems with it being big enough and am self conscious about showing any skin. I would love to find a lightweight cool nursing cover up that actually works. Thanks for your blog! I really enjoy it!

While I think there is nothing wrong with a mom breastfeeding in public whichever way she wants (covered, not covered), personally I will be using a cover or blanket when doing so as I will be more comfortable being covered.
