“Patchwork Style” in my home

This summer I learned to sew!  I indulged my new passion with Amanda Soule’s “Handmade Home” (see my review).  Because I so enjoyed Amanda’s book, I was intrigued by a new series of crafting books released this year by her publisher.  The series, called Make Good: Crafts + Life, produces charming Japanese craft books in English for the first time.  I fell in love with ALL of the titles… but first on my list to own was Patchwork Style:  35 Simple Projects for a Cozy & Colorful Life.

First on my list was new kitchen rugs…

Post moved to Stitched in Color – my personal sewing blog.  Please come for a visit!

Great job Rachel! The mat is beautiful! I’ve been sewing since about 11 years old. It is a lost art and that’s great that you picked it up. Sounds like a nice book that I’ll need to check out.

  3. Oh I LOVE that! Thank you for sharing your link! It looks so good in your kitchen, too :)

  4. Opps I wanted to ask, what do you think of patchwork style? I have been wanting to buy the book but haven’t had the spare money just yet, I might need to start putting some aside though!!

Well, the book is definitely inspiring, but not so helpful for a beginner sewer, like myself. Each project has bare bones directions and several small schematics. It took me lots of rereading and studying to figure out what to do. In the end I am very pleased with the project and with the book, but I feel it’s written for somone with a moderate level of sewing experience. I suppose I’ll grow into it! I recently received two new sewing books “I Heart Patchwork” and “Sew Liberated”. Both of these books are gorgeous and inspiring like Patchwork Style, but they include detailed directions. I’ll be doing a review on both in the next month or so.
