May Giveaway: Cute Nursing Cover-up

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

A mama’s approach to breastfeeding in public is such a personal choice.  Some just don’t do it at all and some feel comfortable feeding baby without taking cover.  For me, using a cover up made all the difference in my comfort level.  We stock and sell Bebe au Lait nursing cover ups  at EuphoriaMaternity.com, which is the style I personally used.  They offer enough coverage without heating you up like you’re under a blanket.

This month we’re giving away this nursing cover up to one lucky reader.  It’s a product sample of the “Simple & Sweet Nursing Curtain“, which offers even more peak-proof security than the Bebe au Lait design.  We offered these nursing cover ups at Euphoria for awhile, but customers seemed to prefer Bebe au Lait.  Rather than see this perfectly usable and cute (love that fabric!) nursing cover languishing on our shelves, I’d like to give it away to a mommy who can use it.  It’s a lightweight cover-up with lots of side coverage and a pocket for your nursing pads.  Retails for $45.00.

Enter to Win.    Enter now through Monday, May 31st (11:59 EST) by adding your comment to this blog post. Share your approach to nursing in public when you make your comment.  We’ll choose one random winner!  Shipping included. Winners will be notified by email. Open to U.S. residents only.

Enter to Win “The Creative Family” by Amanda Soule!

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

creative familyFinally, a book giveaway!  Amanda Soule’s “The Creative Family: How to Encourage Imagination and Nurture Family Connections” has met with heartfelt praise since it was published last year. It’s designed to help families embrace new ways to relax, play, and grow together by doing simple things like enjoying nature, using imagination and playing with basic art supplies and household objects.

A friend recommended this book last year.  I wrote, “I’m so excited to read this book because, to be honest, creativity is not my forte. As an aspiring home-schooler (in the unschooling manner) and a part-time stay-at-home mom, I would love to create a home-culture like the one Amanda describes.”

It’s hard to explain how much has changed in the year and a half since I read “The Creative Family.”  Amanda introduced me to a family culture which led to our “discovery” of Waldorf.  Now we are Waldorf-inspired homeschoolers and our entire family atmosphere has changed.  It all began with a toy revolution.  What a fantastic and joyful change!  Then I began to integrate seasonal songs, poems, books and fingerplays into my days with the children.  Soon we were playing outside more.  Next our interest in art exploded and I worked to create an art studio at home for their free exploration.  And, last of all, I broke out of my “I’m not creative” box and felt empowered to sew, sew, sew – just in time for Handmade Home, Amanda’s latest book!

My hope is that this copy of “The Creative Family” will usher your family down a similar, yet unique path of joyful family becoming.

Enter to Win.   We’re giving away one copy of Amanda Soule’s “The Creative Family.”  Enter now through November 30th (11:59 EST) by adding your comment to this blog post. We’ll choose one random winner!  Shipping included. Winner will be notified by email. Open to U.S. residents only.

Satch & Sol Slippers: Review & Giveaway

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Satch & Sol SlippersI hate being cold.

My house doesn’t have central heat, so my toes just about freeze all winter.  When I first saw Satch & Sol’s slippers on Soule Mama’s blog last year, I knew I wanted a pair.  But, being frugal and all, I decided to crochet myself a pair in wool.  They were cute and worked well enough (though the cold crept in through my stitches), but by winter’s end I’d worn them through several times over.

This year my mama gave me a pair of Satch & Sol slippers for my birthday.  I LOVE them.  Satch & Sol slippers are made of thick, felted wool that’s so, so, soooo warm.  slippers flowersThey’re sturdy enough to last for years, especially with the soft suede sole.  And there are no stitches or seams to let in the cold, since these amazing slippers are actually felted from one piece of wool.   Each one is handmade in Mongolia by a fair trade artisan cooperative.

I’ve already had a couple of chances to wear my pair.  They are definitely breathable and warm!  I’ll be wearing them with socks, to keep them clean and because the wool is itchy.  I look forward to the luxury of warm, toasty toes all winter long!  If you’ll be keeping the thermostat low this winter to save on your energy bill, invest in a pair of these.  You’ll be supporting handmade too!

slippers pupsEnter to Win…  I was so pleased with my slippers that I wrote Satch & Sol to request a giveaway.  Satch & Sol has generously offerred to giveaway one pair of children’s slippers, US size 3 baby (EU 18) to US size 3 youth (EU 34).  The winner may select one pair of children’s slippers available in the online boutique, www.satchsol.com.

Enter now through October 31st (11:59 EST) by adding your comment to this blog post. We’ll choose one random winner!  Shipping included. Winner will be notified by email. Open to U.S. residents only.

Enter to Win an Amber Teething Necklace!

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

mized necklaceOne day a few local moms came in to shop our cloth diapers and non-toxic finds at www.EuphoriaBaby.com.  They came with their adorable toddlers, and I couldn’t help but notice that both children wore necklaces.  The little girl wore a solid cognac amber beaded necklace, while the little dude sported a multi-colored version.  Both looked adorable!  As we talked, one of the moms decided to share the story behind the necklaces.

What I initially took for funky, crunchy kid’s jewelry were actually beneficial necklaces made of Baltic amber.  Have you heard about amber teething necklaces or amber nursing necklaces?  I didn’t think much of them, but I had never really given them a chance or done any research.  These two moms just raved about how helpful they are.  They said the necklaces really help with teething and general irritation.  In fact, they can absolutely tell the difference when the necklace isn’t on!  One mom had loaned her necklace to a friend round cognacwhose baby was really struggling with teething.  That baby did better and kept using the necklace… all the while the toddler was acting irritable.  Mom ordered another necklace to replace the one she’d loaned and her son improved immediately.  I know it sounds crazy, “weird” and unlikely, but if you do the research, it’s not actually strange at all.

amberBaltic amber is not really a stone, it’s fossilized tree resin.  Historically, Baltic Amber has been used in Europe as a natural and traditional remedy and curative for many ailments for centuries. Long ago it was considered one of the leading ‘medicines’ of its time. Baltic Amber is the most esteemed amber in the world, and the healing qualities of Baltic Amber make it unlike any other type of amber found in the world.

How does it work?  When baltic amber is worn on the skin, the skin’s warmth releases trace amounts of healing oils from the amber. These oils contain succinic acid and are absorbed into the skin.

Baltic Amber has some of the highest concentrations of Succinic Acid found in nature, and this is what makes it so special. Succinic Acid is a natural component of plant and animal tissues, and it’s presence in the human body is beneficial in many ways:

  • Pain relief – it has analgesic properties
  • Immune boost – naturally increased the body’s healing abilities
  • Restoring energy – the salt of succinic acid (succinate) is one of the most active substances in the processes of cellular respiration and intercellular energy creation. Succinic acid restores oxygen and energy supply to depleted cells and helps the body return to a normal, functioning state.
  • Maintaining wellness – enabling full oxygenation of cells
  • Anti-Inflammatory – helps break the cycle of chronic inflammation.  Inflammation is part of the disease cyle.

Everyone knows a pregnant woman should stay active… but what do you wear to cover your bump while running, biking, or playing volleyball?  There’s no reason why your pregnancy should consign you to second-rate clothing that leaves you sweaty and uncomfortable.  BornFit is a new activewear line designed by two active mamas who grew up among the stunning Rocky Mountains of Colorado.  Here are some words at the heart of their vision:

“We believe that all of us are BornFit. The beauty of being “Fit” is that it comes in all different sizes, shapes, interests and even passions. BornFit’s maternity clothing is designed in high-tech wicking fabrics with comfortable waistbands and plenty of stretch so they can be worn throughout pregnancy and well beyond baby ‘s arrival.  What’s more, the line features smart details like mesh panels to keep you cool, zipper pockets for your keys, and reflectors to keep you safe on the road.  It’s been a hit with moms in our store, and we know you’ll love it too!  Ready to get moving?  Enter below!

Enter to Win a FREE Week of Organic Babyfood!

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Ideally, you make your own baby food out of organic, local produce… but maybe not every week or maybe never!  If you’re like most parents you certainly buy some baby food.  But, what do you buy?  Choosing organic baby food means you keep pesticides, heavy metals and solvents out of your baby’s diets.  That’s a great start!  But, if you think about it, freshness matters too.  Fresher, just cooked foods have more nutritional value than other foods.  Also, fresh foods are the least likely to contain dangerous levels of bacteria.

Question:  How to get fresh baby food (i.e. not canned food that can sit on the shelves in your local grocery store for weeks), without making it at home?

Answer:  Buy frozen, organic baby food online, with a regular weekly delivery to your house!

My favorite source is Yummy Spoonfuls, a company out of Georgia who manufactures certified organic baby food.  Unlike other organic baby food companies, Yummy Spoonfuls does NOT heat treat their product.  Heat treatments damage the nutritional integrity of foods.  As such, their food is perishable.  And, folks, that’s a good thing!  Here’s a few words from Yummy Spoonfuls:

Why Yummy Spoonfuls?

Because our children’s bodies are in a state of growth and development, they need a constant supply of highly nutritional building blocks not only free of chemicals but equally high in protein, essential fats, complex carbohydrates, and a full complement of vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients, which are all necessary to support healthy growth. A pure organic diet can be more beneficial during the first few months of life than at any other time but most IMPORTANTLY it is imperative we provide the freshest meals ever. Babies have immature systems and need the very purest and safest foods. Yummy Spoonfuls Baby Food PROVIDES JUST THAT.

Because given our hectic lifestyles with trying to balance work and parenthood or just trying to handle being a parent, it is not often easy to make all the delicious foods that we so lovingly want to provide to our offspring. Yummy Spoonfuls Baby Food is that invisible hand we all wished we had to make foods with the same loving touch we all would if only we had the time.

Because (we are very proud to say) our foods are perishable! Though it can stay fresh frozen for up to two months, there is really no need to keep it that long. Yummy Spoonfuls IS produced WEEKLY IN SMALL BATCHES and immediately frozen to lock in freshness. Order weekly or bi-weekly so that there is always fresh, homemade food available for your baby

You can buy directly from Yummy Spoonfuls here. Admittedly, frozen baby food is more costly than jarred organic food at the grocery store.  Fortunately, we’re giving it away!

Enter to win!  One lucky reader will receive a week’s worth of delicious, organic baby food – that’s 12 containers of either stage one or stage two Yummy Spoonfuls baby food.  Enter now through June 30th by adding your comment to this blog post.  We’ll choose one random winner!  Shipping not included.

Enter to win a FREE Organic Baby Tee!

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

So often organic baby layette is available only in simple, solid colors.  When we came across Kiwi Industries’ new organic layette, which features modern earthy prints, we had to have it!  The collection includes long and short sleeve styles, a lightweight layering jacket, warm pullover sweater, onepiece romper, kimono dress, coordinating blankets and hats too!  To celebrate our newest addition, we’re giving away one free long sleeve baby tee in the Green Vine print, size 6-12 months.

Kiwi’s layette is complete, 100% organic cotton.  We especially love that the sweaters are knit in a fair-trade women’s cooperative in South America, where women knit from their homes, often caring for their children and providing the sole source of income.  How wonderful!

I have to say, it reminds me a little bit of, well… me.  I work out of my parent’s home part-time (my mother works the other half).  And, when I’m not working, I’m home with the kids!  I’m hoping to be home more in the future, so that I can enjoy homeschooling my little ones.

Enter to Win!:  Here’s your chance to give us some feedback.  Please take a look at our selection of organic and/or eco-friendly baby clothes:  http://www.euphoriababy.com/store/pc/Clothe-c21.htm.  Which collection or brand do you like the best, and why?  Your ideas can really help our family business improve our selection.  Just post your comments here on this blog and you’ll be entered to win.   Enter now through March 22nd.  We’ll choose one random winner!
