While synthetic PUL holds or blocks moisture in its liquid state, thus creating an ideal breeding ground for bacteria to grow, wool absorbs moisture in its vapor state, easily releasing it into the air, before bacteria can grow. Because of this antibacterial property, wool is odor-resistant too. Odors are caused by bacteria growing on fibers. Want natural fire-protection? Wool is difficult to light and self-extinguishing. Contrast that to PUL, which is made from petroleum.... And finally, wool is self-cleansing. Wool has lanolin (a popular ingredient in soapmaking) which works with friction produced by the dynamic fibers to perpetually scrub itself clean. That's why some moms only find need to wash their diaper covers every 1-2 months!
